Semifinalists in Novice and PS breaks at Ohio Valley

Suraj Sehgal & Naveena Karusala finished as Semifinalists losing their last round on a 3-0 decision. Great Job! The bus should be leaving Lexington, Kentucky soon. What Twitter feeds for status on arrival time to pickup your kids. This was a very good tournament for our Raider Debaters. Two varsity teams went 4-2 but only one team (Anushka & Ricardo) broke and finished as Double Octo Finalists. We also had four additional Varsity teams going 3-3. In the Novice division, three teams went 3-2 but only the team of Suraj & Naveena broke and finished as Semifinalist. Congratulations on a great tournament!

Team sweeps top speaker awards; bid to GFCA State

Semifinalists and Ms.Grasier
The Alpharetta Debate Team did an amazing job at the Grady Quest Tournament. Ricardo Saenz was named 1st Speaker in the Varsity Division, followed by Riana Ilango named 2nd Speaker and David Lee as 3rd Speaker. Ricardo Saenz with his partner Anushka Panday were Semifinalists, receiving a bid to the State Varsity Championships. The team of Riana Ilango and David Lee were Quarterfinalists.

In the Junior Varsity Division, the first year debaters Suraj Sehgal and Naveena Karusala were Quarterfinalists. They lost their Quarters round on a 2-1 decision. In the Novice Division, along with many teams being close to breaking, the team of Saachi Hingorani and Mili Raina were Quarterfinalists. Not only was this their second tournament ever, but their second time breaking! They dropped on a 2-1 decision as well.

The Speech team also placed in many areas, allowing the entire Alpharetta Team to win the Sweepstakes Award. Great job!!

Anushka & Ricardo finish as Double-Octofinalists; Narrowly miss TOC-bid

Ricardo & Anushka came close but lost their Octofinal TOC Bid Round finishing a very good tournament with some of the toughest competition in the country. They went 5-2 in the preliminary rounds. Riana & Vignesh also had a very good tournament finishing the prelims with a 4-3 record.

Next week our Raider Debaters will be competing locally at the Grady High School Tournament. That scoreboard will be posted as soon as we know who is competing.

Suraj and Naveena declared Quarterfinalists at Johns Creek Tournament

Our JV team of Suraj Sehgal and Naveena Karusala broke to the elimination rounds at their second JV tournament ever, this past weekend at Johns Creek. And although he did not get a speaker award, Suraj still ranked 13th overall in speakers.

In the novice division, Chris Moxley and Matthew Simcoe went 2-2, scoring with high speaker points. While no speaker award, Chris still was 21st out of about 120 novices in the entire division.

In Varsity, four teams went 3-2 and were just short of breaking: Riana and David, Anushka and Ricardo, Tucker and James, and Vignesh and Reuben.
