About Debate

The Director of Debate is Ms. Amy Waldman. She coaches the Novice debate teams and was a debater herself in high school at Milton High School.

Main coach for JV and Varsity squads is Mr. Adam Smiley. He was a coach at Chattahoochee High School where he got teams to the Tournament of Champions (the top tournament for High School Debate) and was the GFCA (Georgia Forensic Coaches’ Association)’s Coach of the Year in 2005.

The topic for the 2010-2011 school year will be on pulling out military forces from nations like Iraq or Afganistan (the full list being Afganistan, Iraq, Kuwait, South Korea, Japan, or Turkey). In Policy Debate, all teams switch back and forth between supporting the topic or opposing it – this increases education and gives the debater a greater appreciation for all points of view.
